Job Description


Field Surveyors are responsible for performing comprehensive and accurate field surveys in two environments:

  • In an aerial (pole line) environment, surveying utility (telephone, cable TV, electric) equipment and poles for designated geographic areas
  • Within a municipality's geographical boundaries, where assets of both municipality and utility may be inventoried.

Surveyors will use Global Positioning System (GPS) capable handheld devices to record equipment details, and identify geographic coordinates location within sub-metric (foot) accuracy. The field surveyor will also indentify potential locations for any required equipment additions, and transmit all survey data to a central server.
As part of the field visit, the surveyor will conduct visual T-zone inspections to identify non-standard conditions, using a digital camera to record and forward said conditions to the central server as part of the data transmitted to the central server.

Requirements


This job requires extensive knowledge of utility (telephone, cable TV, electric) equipment that is used in an aerial environment, as well as the ability to use information on utility plats as input to the field survey. Surveyors must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of equipment, and walk a several-mile long pole line. Surveyors will be responsible for the quality and accuracy of the surveys and safekeeping of all XpressGIS provided equipment. Surveyors are responsible for providing his/her own vehicle, personal PC and personal mobile telephone.
